At first it seemed very good, mores sales oriented then needed but reasonably efficient. My cousin was assured he didn't need to pay since his deceased life partner was Native American and the tribe would contribute $2000 towards the cost. What she and he had decided before her death was pretty simple so the costs would be withing $68 of the pending payment. Unfortunately I had to return home and my grieving cousin went back with one of the deceased's daughters a week later. This time the story was different. No cremation would be performed nor the body retained unless the costs were paid in full. My cousin had explained the tribe would make the check payable to Lassila and himself. Amy Fox,who had previously told my cousin no payment would be needed since the tribe would be paying, now assured him she would be able to sign off on the check. The check arrived and Amy accompanied my cousin to the bank to release funds only to find that she had no authority to do so. Now my cousin has a check he cannot cash, the funeral home is paid in full through his personal funds and Lassila headquarters are in New Orleans so that a very simple process has turned into a further nightmare. People coming to a funeral home are very vulnerable and I feel the conflicting information delivered from the first visit to the second is enough to cause negligence of duty for the funeral parlor employee, Amy Fox. The second promise of being able to sign off on the funds from the tribe insurance and then not have any authority to do so is a form of fraud. To be misled like this at any time is wrong when weakened through grief at the loss of a beloved it is immoral. I understand culling the weak from the herd in animals, but humans taking advantage of those stricken with grief makes me wonder for the future of mankind. It looks good from the outside, but the deceptive handling of the financial terms is unacceptable. Ours was a very basic cremation that is becoming a complex civil case heading for court.

  • Lassila is no longer owned by the same Corporation. It is now owned by a Family and everyone there, including Jennifer, are compassionate and caring. I would Definitely recommend this funeral home.
